Actually, I think Elson might be right. Billboard's hot 100 for this
week...http://www.billboard.com/charts/hot100.asp ...shows something kind of
amazing. In the top 50, there are only 2 tunes with sales of 1 million or
above (platinum);
"Maria Maria," Santana Featuring The Product G&B
"Smooth," Santana Featuring Rob Thomas
And just 8 with sales of 500,000 or more (gold);
"Say My Name," Destiny's Child
"Amazed," Lonestar
"There You Go," Pink
"Goodbye Earl," Dixie Chicks
"I Knew I Loved You," Savage Garden
"I Need To Know," Marc Anthony
"What A Girl Wants," Christina Aguilera
"I Like It," Sammie
When you consider that a song like Faith Hill's "Breathe" has been on the
charts for 26 weeks and has spent some time in the top 5 (at least 2 weeks
in a row at number 2), and still it hasn't sold a half million units....
well, that says something about the singles market.
