I'm a 23 yr old historic preservationist outside of Chicago. Been listening to hip-hop since an early age. I started buying vinyl with "one-off" purchases like Biz Markie or Rakim when I found them (tough, living in Kansas at the time).
Got into acid jazz through the whole trip-hop scene... krush, ninjatune comps, dj shadow, ect. Never really liked my early acid jazz purchases... incognito, jazzhole, us3, raw stylus. finally struck gold with James Taylor Quartet, then realized I wanted that original jazz-funk ish, so I went backwards (luv n haight comps, etc). Spent a semester in the UK and broadened my horizons greatly.... gilles peterson, compost, cup of tea, underground house, etc. Here I am today buying mostly stuff I hear from Gilles on the net or my trusty hip-hop show on WNUR, 89.3 FM in Chi. Rocking everything from Dynamic Sycopation to Archer Prewitt to Funk Inc to Jazzanova.
