hi there
i've got to say that i agree with stephanie and michael. tags and categories are maybe not that good because it gives you people headahes, but there's still some people on this planet that are not this 99% curious as us people of the aj list ; i mean, i'm sure terminologies used to help me lots, lots of time when i was with money for 1 record in a shop (it's kinda sci-fi, ok, but anyway) and just 5 minutes before i gotta do something else than spend 4 hours listening to it all.
"abstract", i'm nearly ok with it as it's one of my favorite words, eh eh eh. even if we could put vadim (abstract hip hop?), and matmos (abstract electro hip hop), and many, many more.
sure, we can put tags on everything, and it's really annoying to have to categorize something that we feel as a melting result of many influences. but this do help many people that don't have your "knowledge" (if i can use this word, don't forget that i'm a froggie who don't speak english that good), don't you think?
>Is Dego the father of this movement?
>A lot of the stuff i see to be in this
>genre seems to takes influence from this
>guy.
dego, father? whaouh, the guy could love this. i think the whole west london tribe, with Dego and Gus from the reinforced posse, with IG culture, with the Flemming brothers, who don't do music that much but seems to know where the vibes are, but also Kaidi tathum, orin Walters and the other guys from Laws of motion, Satori (yeah, i forgot Satori, in this house not house line...great shit too!), and people like Alex attias (mustang, bel air project, catalyst...) or modaji know their shit too. all these guys come from house, drum'n'bass, electro, whatever, but the result seems like a fusion (eheheh) of so much stuff that it doesn't fit each categories exactly..
>1) What elements of house does House <> House keep?
>2) What elements of house does House <> House throw out? etc....
Steve, why don't you give a try to all these labels people talked about? i think it's better to listen to it than tryng to find example. i mean, what is free jazz for the people on this list? i think we could get 1000000 answers, and probably some good words fight too. but it doesn't help that much as far as it depends if these sounds speak to you. personally i don't dig Towa tei at all ; be sure that at last 10 people of the list will let me know that i must try to hear this or that. i know only the first LP, and the DeeeLite shit (wonderful, big big big shit). but it's not because it's good for them that it will be good for me. house not house stuff? any of the labels that Dirk or the others mentionned. it could be a good example, or a bad. anyway. hmmm. i think Celine Dion do a good abstract music, too, since she said she stopped (liar, liar, we all knowshe will be -argh- back).
i think i used your eyes enough. sorry.
peace & respect
june
