Have to disagree with the brazil comments. I've
skipped a bunch of "latin" sutff including the new
latinaires comps because of weakness, lack of focus,
or gratuitous kitch, but there is a lot of stuff which
draws appropriately from the old records we know and
love. amalgamation of soundz is a good example since
they dont' try to be soemthign they're not but
seamlessly incorporate an old sound into a new
context. although i don't think they represent the
sound we're talking about. I don't have the comp you
mentioned, but I've been hearing incredible
brazillian-influenced drums and general soulfulness
from the labels mentioned during the past few days. It
comes down to, some people "get it" and some people
don't.
