If my apt. caught on fire and I could only save 5 cds.
Two of them would be by Betty Davis. This woman
was BAAAAAAD (in the good sense of the word)! Her albums
were all released during the seventies. Her music is
pretty much stripped down funk versus soul. Her singing
is an acquired taste; it's not perfect and pretty; it's
gritty, but her songwriting is good fun. Many
talented musicians and singers worked with her such
as the pointer sisters, Herbie Hancock, Larry Graham,
    Sylvester, Pete Escovedo, and more.

I recommend them all (she has four total).
However, if you have to buy one, I'd get
"They say I'm different." You can find three on CD
    (I'm still searching far and wide for "Nasty Gal" on CD);
they are a hard find, but if you persevere you can get them.

The song you mention is called "anti-love" song.
It is on the "Betty Davis" album; my pick for the next Betty
    Davis purchase. There's also a
greatest hit CD in addition to the four albums, called
    "anti-love song". The lyrics are
"That's why I don't wanna love you." Also, on "Betty Davis"
is this mind-blowing song called "If I'm in luck I might just
    get picked up."

Her final album is "Hangin' Out in Hollywood;"
It's a little on the cheesy side cause you could tell
she was trying to go with the disco trend vs. her other
funk masterpieces, but there are still some gems on here
especially the ballad, "tell me a few things". I wouldn't
recommend this as the first purchase to get acquainted with
her. You may get turned off by the cheese and would probably
think it sucks upon a casual listen.

I listen to her often and I wonder if she is still alive and
if so what the heck is she doing? She was a pretty wild woman
for the times. She posed for playboy way back in the day.
One of her songs is called "he's a freak" and the lyrics go
"I used to tie him up with my turquoise chain." I'd love to
    meet her even now.

I hate she isn't that well known. She has some classic songs
that have stood the test of time. If you can't tell, I love
    this woman's music.

I discovered her by talking to the singer Joi (from Atlanta
whose married to the Goodie Mob's Big Gipp.) I saw her
perform with Fishbone a couple of times and she performed:
"If I'm in luck I might just get picked up." I was blown
away by this song. Being stupid and uninformed, I thought
it was her original and she said, "No, Honey, Haven't you
heard of the black betty davis?" and this is when my betty
    davis musical journey began.

If anybody sees a copy of "Nasty Gal" on CD, I'd pay
you an extra $20 on top of the cost to mail it to me.
I've been looking for it for over two years.s
