Pick of the Week: Da Lata's excellent Songs From the Tin (Palm Pictures),
bringing gorgeous acoustic instrumentation, beautiful vocals, and a passion
for classic Brazilian musics together with a solid sense of studio
know-how. Definitely not a record made for the dancefloor, Songs From the
Tin is refreshingly pure, hitting the heart with music that is clearly
crafted with much love.
Toronto's DJ Wasabi also passed by to drop a guest set of deep house and
drum & bass, which led up to her Pride-weekend appearance at the Fruit
Loopz stage. Definitely watch and listen for more from this up-and-comer.

Pick of the Week: St. Germaine's Tourist (Blue Note / EMI). Showing yet
another side to his production, the man also known as Ludovic Navarre is
fittingly paired with the Blue Note label. Tourist is simply beautiful,
bringing jazz, deep house, downtempo, and dub all to the table - never
sounding as though any were awkward party guests. A definite must-have.
Today's guest was DJ / vocalist Stach, who can be found spinning conscious
hip hop and related sounds Monday evenings here on CKLN when she and Jemeni
bring 'Droppin' Dimes' to the airwaves. When not mixing beats, Brazilian
flavours, house and other sounds 'round town, Stach can be found on the
mic, fronting Maxelle. She and musical partner Don Ray have created a
lovely 4-track EP, with their "French Connection" also found on PTR's Blue
Night Network compilation. This day, we discussed Maxelle's appearance at
the 'Decks 'n Divas' event, part of the Downtown Jazz Festival.
