a note to people that aren't djs--if you dig what the dj is doing:
1. DANCE!! it's the main way we can tell you dig it.
2. if you don't feel like dancing:
a. buy a drink (it makes the venue happy)
b. *don't leave* (it makes the promoter happy)
c. compliment the dj (we feel better--though we still would prefer you to dance)
3. VERY IMPORTANT!! tell the promoter you think the dj is the cat's pajamas (or whatever your favorite phrase is)
so they'll hire him/her again!!
4. as much as possible (i know we all have jobs and/or classes and limited funds) go to events that feature djs that you like, and *take friends*!! if a sizable number of people show up everytime a certain dj gets booked, that dj will get booked a lot--think of that wack dj you know that gets booked all the time, what is his/her turnout like?
this will help us keep a scene (whichever one you're part of) where djs get rewarded for being dope by playing out more often.
so many promoters are willing to cheese out on the music if they can get a turnout and make money--this goes double for venues.

as an addendum, if no one's booking the djs you want to hear, start throwing a club/party. or, if you like going out but there's no djs that play what you want to hear, buy some records/cds and learn to spin!!
