ahem .. 45 000 to live on when the record is pulling in millions is a big
problem and the artists has a right to be upset.
also when you read the article it makes it clear that when you are signed
the signing bonus and production costs are still your responsibility. the
bottom line is if an artist is making a lot of money for a label .. then
they should be doing equally as well.
i think that article was really on point and that the gist was that she was
going to break her contract to release music independently using the
internet, what i think is a great idea.
the point is there is a huge bloated system in place between you and the
music that breeds mediocrity and is complety unnecessary in our age. the
huge labels will fight like hell to keep all of the marketing dorks and
other hangers on in work but i think that with artists like courtney
standing up for their rights the motherfu*er is going to burn. i for on
will be happy to see it go down.

I read the speech, and Im sorry top say I have little to know sympathy.
She actually says "you only have 45,000 to live on for a year......do you
know how many peole would be happy with 45,000. ANd then the other thing
is, the record company invests loads of money in these artists what if
they flop....the record company looses it all. Im sick of hearing
musicians complaining about how much money they are not making.
release your music independently and tour then you wont have to deal with
record labels
