Selector is a term originally used in old school reggae/ dub/ dancehall
of an alternate way of calling the "dj" , by the "mc" . He selected
dope jams to make the crowd dance. Later, it was used alot in old
hardcore/ ragga/ breakbeat days of Ratpack, 2 Bad Mice, Phuture
Assassins, Sons of Loop D' Loop Era, Run Tings, Shut Up & Dance, Ragga
Twins, and early 4 Hero. Then in Jungle terms, and more recently in 2-
Step/ UK Garage. Artful Dodger immortalised the phrase in their song
"Re- Rewind, When the crowd say bo, Selector". The MC calling the DJ to
Rewind the record on the crowds requests of "Bo!". It is an urban/
London 'ting at the moment, but soon to hit worldwide.
