Well, I normally don't send reviews to the list, but I've picked up a
couple items that I'm digging hardcore right now. I'll get right to the
meat of it.
People under the Stairs - Youth Explosion (PUTS/Om Records)
DAMN this joint is funky. If you are down with the jazzy, funky hip
hop like Jurassic 5 or Sound Providers, get this! Funky from the
start to the end with really groovy samples. Normally I can't dig the
hip hop instrumentals because they are pretty boring, but the
samples are so dope that I'll rock the instrumental just to hear
them. As far as the rhyming goes - its on point with the production.
Funky Gems - ? - ?
Pretty much a compilation of some old rare groove. It says the
record is promotional use only, and the guy who I bought it from
said only 500 were produced. I can't verify this, but its got some
chillin' rare groove tracks. There are definite candidates that could
be included in the Brainfreeze compilation. I'm still stuck on the
Baby Huey track "Hard Times". Other artists include Bobby Allen
& the Exceptions, The Bar-Kays, Jake Wade & the Soul
Searchers, Fyl Johnson, and the Blazers. Highly recommended if
you can get your hands on it.
Finally, one for the other DJ's out there. Maybe some know of it,
maybe some down. Every DJ dreams of having his own Vinyl
Press, and Vestax is set to introduce their wax cutter very soon.
*WHAT* what what???? You know it. Its a bit bigger than a 1200,
but it presses vinyl. Just think, that search for those super rare
tracks is over with this, get it on a CD, and then press it to vinyl.
Isn't this every DJ's dream? You no longer have to cut those
classics every time you spin, just use your backup. Compile your
own skratching samples, compile your best so you don't have to
carry 4 krates of record when you spin...you name the possibilities!

No word of price, media, just a small picture and yes....its real. We
saved our pennies for sooo long to get our 1200's and its time to
start saving again. I'm all about more info on this puppy, especially
pricing, media, and release. Anybody got any more tidbits?
simon.
