I think I know what this one is.
At first it was just a hunch.
"Slowly, Surely..." ?
I think I've heard that before...
It was one year ago while I was
listening to Chocolate City...
I heard the soulful voice of
Jill Scott.
It sucks that there are so many people
named Jill Scott in this world, because
the search engines turn up a lot of
different (Jill Scott)s. There was
hardly any relevant information on her,
so I did a search for "hidden beach",
and to my pleasant surprise
                they have a webpage now!
              http://www.hiddenbeach.com
                     with personal info!

                      and audio samples!

Jill Scott is *soooo* good.
She's from Philly, too. Perhaps you
already know about her??
- there's a small chance that this might
  not be the "slowly,surely" you're
thinking of... Jill Scott is worth
  checking out, anyway. I barely
remember what she sounds like (because
it's been a year since that particular
Chocolate City show), but I remember
the feeling I had listening to her.
garth had her on as a special guest,
and she was really intelligent, had
  the smoothest voice... I remember
garth asking her to do something live
on the radio, and she recited some
erotic poetry, and that whole show was
  just unbelievable.
- garth is cool. Last autumn, towards
the end of my days in kalifornia, I
sent him an email asking about Jill
Scott's album which was supposed to be
out about that time (according to the
afformentioned show). He told me it
wasn't out yet (and it's still not out
(damnit!)), but to appease my appetite
for her voice, he played something she
sang off the in_2_deep soundtrack on
  his show.

  I felt special.
