    The Best Of Chicago!

Food- ribs (NN Smokehouse on Irving Park), Korean BBQ (Chicago Kalbi house
on Lawrence), Soul Food (Wishbone or Soul Kitchen), Steak Sandwich
(Ricobenes), Chicken Wings (Buffalo Joes on Howard or in Evanston), Ice
Cream (Margies Ice Cream Parlor on Western), fancy (Blackbird), burgers
(Moody's Pub on Bway), late night Chinese (River Kwai on Belmont--open late,
but a bring a book they're slow as hell).

Music- Gramaphone, Dusty Groove for oldies (Reckless is good for some stuff
too and much cheaper), and Groove Distribution, hands down the best source
for downtempo/acid jazz music in the Midwest (okay I'm biased). Only open to
the public Sun 12-3 and Wed 6-9. Beat Parlor and Supreme both in Wicker Park
aren't too bad. Coop's on the south side has the best selection of soul and
r&b CDs in the city. Doc Wax in Hyde Park has some great used records (and a
lot of promos sold by local deejays). And the new Virgin Megastore has a
    HUGE selection of import CDs.

Clubs- Funky Buddha, Dannys, Subterrean, Double Door (Mondays only), Bettys
(Wed), and a few others. Check the Reader and New City (both free papers)
    for all the spots.

Attractions- Disney Quest, Sears Tower, Shedd aquarium, Art Institute, and
    lots of museums down town.

Other ideas--pick up the Frommers Guide.

    Elson:
I'll throw out a few now off the top and think on
it some more. I'm sure others will have some too.
TUNES: Definitely go hit up Grammaphone Records,
one of my favorites. Peep the maaajor list of mix
tapes. I'd also pop into Dusty Grooves if they're open
-- check their website for hours.
SHOWS: My favorite, the Elbo Room, often times
will have acid jazz, hip hop or other stuff. I've
caught Liquid Soul there a few times now. The Red Dog,
I think that's the name, in Wicker Park isn't bad
    either. Only been there once.
FOOD: I'm always broke from spending too much on
records. So I just hit up the Taco Palaces. There's
like three or four of them around. Excellent greasy
authentic Mexican food for the drunk soul.
