I also liked some of the Pumpkins stuff. Their first record was damn good! They're just not the flavor of the week anymore. I wonder how many listees are gonna be trashing D'Angelo, Amon Tobin and Amel Larrieux once their "cool" factor wears off? In acid-jazz, like in every other musical category, you will find the poseurs, hipsters, and hangers-on who are more concerned with how cool their record collection will seem to their college buddies. It's hip to be a turntablist now, but I'll bet any pile of money that there'll be TONS of turntables and mixers up for auction up at ebay once the fad wears out. For the record, I find Billy Corgan annoying as fuck. Then again, I'd find any whiny depresso who rants about how he wants to die annoying. But hey, back in the early 90's, it was cool to be depressed and wear dime store rags. Sorry for the rant, but I find that it's just way too easy to trash the Pumpkins now that they no longer fill the requisite "hip" quotient. I trust it just as little as I trust Britney, Rickey, or Christina fans. Same shit, smaller pile.
