I would recommend the following:
1/. Future World Funk - great comp with a wide range of sounds.
2/. Frikyiwa 1 - French comp of music from Mali remixed by some great and
interesting remixers, good stuff from Aqua Bassino and Chari Chari, who are
Japanese remixers and deejays and
3/. Another good Chari Chari remix can be found on More Bossa which is a
comp of remixes that includes good work from Rollercone and Modaji, material
drawn from....
4/. Bossa Tres ......Jazz which has some great Latin-influenced stuff
collaborations between Japanese and French musicians and remixers
5/. and then there is Arabesque which is a comp of Middle eastern music
produced by Momo who owns a restaurant/club in London which has done it's
very fair share to expose some Middle Eastern/Remix collaborations that you
might find interesting
6/. and on the Brazilian tip I have been listening to Brazilian Love Affair
#2 and found some great tracks on it with remixes by the likes of Pressure
Drop and music by Celia Vaz and other sterling Brazilian things
7/. One of my favourite discs for some time has been Mo' Horizons, their
disc, Come touch the Sun has been on constant re-play on my listening pile.
I get calls on it almost everytime I air it on my radio show
8/. Suba's album is a gem if you like Brazilian music with an experimental
and adventurous overlay of electronica and some stunning textural elements
9/. I do love the Bebel Gilberto album as well and Suba makes some sterling
production contributions on this album
10/.and before I begin to get tedious, I really love this whole general area
of music and there is so much great stuff out there once you start looking
and I tend to babble a bit in my enthusiasm! but, be that as it may let me
add that my current listening pile also includes The New Latinaires, I have
all three volumes and each of them has some great stuff worth having, there
is a new Latin comp on Six Degrees that has some good stuff and is to be
recommended
as I said, I can go off on this. If I can point you in any direction please
just ask, I love to share this stuff. Lately more of my live sets (as
opposed to radio stuff)have included more percussion and world-oriented
music. When drummers want to sit in with me we can lock up the groove pretty
quick if they have some talent and do some nice jamming in and out of
various genres and sub-sets of music.
OK, later, I hope that you find and enjoy some of this list !
