Went shopping the other day and wanted to pick up some new trance but
walked out of Satellite with only house music :) My tastes are
changing...sorry not much acid-jazz this time around.

    2 quick questions up front:
    a. Anyone heard the new "New Latinaires 3" compliation out on Ubiquity? I
have to say that the first one was much friendlier to my ears than the
    second one...
    b. Jesper Dahlback? Swedish deep house DJ? Anyone know anything about
this guy and the mixes he has out on Turbo Records? I must've been sleeping...

    * * *

    on to the quickie reviews...

    Aquanote "True Love" (Naked Music)
Aquanote is Gabriel Rene who did that memorable track "Don't You Cry" on OM
Records. I personally like the deeper, less vocal side of Naked's catalog
but I like this one. The Petalpusher remix or the Original- depending on
your mood, but in the classic Naked style.

Alan Braxe & Fred Falke presents "Running" (Vulture)
File this sleeper under French House - it just cuts a 4/4 groove with the
walking bass that you can't stop moving to. That bassline is very
reminiscent of Daft Punk's "Around the World." I think Braxe did a track
"Vertigo" that was pretty popular in the past. The weird thing about this
track is that really varied DJs are listing this record- breakbeat DJs,
    garage DJs, etc.

Nuspirit Helsinki "Montana Roha Jazz EP" (Jazzanova Compost Records)
Everyone has already talked about how good this one is. I love it
    too. 'Nuff said.

    AWA Band "Timba" (Defected)
I generally don't buy from the Defected label so I was pleasantly surprised
to find a fun samba house track here. This one has 9(!) remixes so I'm
sure you can find one that will fit your mood or your set. There is some
great percussion on some of the remixes.

Soulstance/Listening to Lalo "The Aftermath of Love" (Schema)
Dancefloor remixes of Lalo Schifrin's music. Jazzy and bright and warm -
    music to smile to.

Multiply Summer Sampler 03 "Love Connection/Fiorello" (Multiply)
Love Connection's "The Bomb" is vaguely reminiscent of Basement Jaxx, but
not nearly as good. The stormer is Fiorello's "Azzurro" which has a groovy
salsa house line with some fun guitar solos. Very 4/4.

New Funk Theory feat. Kerry Green "Always" (airtight)
There's 2 different 12" remixes of "Always" and this one (air009R) is the
one to own, imho. Did you know that Airtight is a sub-label of Hooj
    Choons? I didn't until recently.

    Omid "the top/dark horses" (Alola)
Who knew this guy would start such a revolution in 1998? Today, tunes from
16b's 1998 full-length "Sounds From Another Room" (Eye Q) are sprinkled
across Global Underground mix CDs ("Nubreed: Danny Howells" and "Darren
Emerson - Uruguay") and his "16b" remixes are everywhere. I don't think
everything he does captures the quality of his first full-length album, but
I do think he is the standard-bearer for deep house. The "Dark Horses"
track captures more of the 16b sound to me than the flip side.

    West Magnetic (OM Records)
OM (and San Francisco in general) seems to be putting out a lot more
quality house these days and this 12" is another step in the right
direction. One straight jazz track, one nice deep house track, and one
    forgettable house track.

Da Sunlounge "Repercussions/Salsa" (Low Pressings Limited)
This is a nice remix of that track on the Thievery Corp DJ Kicks
album...umm I forget it but when you listen to the label side of this 12"
you'll recognize it immediately. ESL fans will go nuts ;)

    What have you been enjoying?

    Gen
