always love any excuse to rap about roy... :) I'll have to get my shit together and do a website sometime soon...

The Ramp album came out on ABC records from NYC in 1977, sort of a precursor to what roy did with his own Uno-Melodic label project in the early 80's.. Roy produced the album along with Ubiquity cohorts Edwin Birdsong and William Allen - these 3 also wrote the album..

Ramp the band is john manuel on drums and perc, sharon matthews and sibel thrasher on vocals, nate white on bass and landy shores on guitar.. Im guessing a few of the other long-time Ubiquity members like philip woo (keys) and chano o'ferral (percussion) probably feature going by the classic sounds..

It is very much "minimal soul", a good term to describe the album.. best tracks are the much-loved "daylight", "come into knowledge" (the title track) and the (imo better than the original! believe it!) remake of "everybody loves the sunshine".. overall very laid back and CD-worthy, dont know if it was ever properly remastered and packaged on CD though...?

www.dustygroove.com love it and stock the proper Lp repress, much luck finding an original (if you find two, drop me a line :)

    peace

Could someone tell me a little about Ramp? I know it's a Roy Ayers project, but I know little else about it. I was surprised, however, when Jan Jelinek cited it as an example of the kind of minimalist soul that's influenced him. Is this still available on repress? I saw it in my neighborhood store in SF, but slept on it, and now it's gone.
