Rootdown on Thursday nites is usually a pretty happening time. The club is
called Gabbah, and it's on Melrose out Hollywood way a few blocks east of
Highland. I've seen Miles Tackett (Breakestra), Cut Chemist (Jurassic 5) and
numerous other luminaries spin there, as well as afro-funk monster band
Antibalas.
Fais-do-do is another club that hosts acid jazz type nights now and again,
plus, they now have a Knitting Factory in LA, which has a good variety of
shows. Make sure you check the LA Weekly. The LA music scene has improved
dramatically in the last 15 years. (Poison, Warrant, anyone?) Lots happening
now. Any other suggestions?
