"keepin things on a similar vibe, this is just the tip of the iceberg of
    artists/collectives well worth your money:

    Common
Mos Def, Talib Kweli & Hi-Tek"

Oh yes, I agree. 'Like Water for Chocolate' by Common is superb, and the
last Reflection Eternal LP was also good. I've not heard any Mos Def stuff
but people say it is superior to the Reflection Eternal things by Kweli and
    Hi-Tek. Who knows about this?

While people are talking about non-jazzy hip-hop, Mark B & Blade and their
LP 'The Unknown' from last year should be mentioned. One of the best rap
albums of last year. Blade also did an album in 1993 called 'The Lion Goes
from Strength to Strength' which was produced, recorded, pressed and
distributed independently and sold 20,000 copies by mail order. In the '2000
for 2000 best albums of the Millennium' it is described as "...one of the
lost greats of the genre." Has anyone heard this LP? (I appreciate though
that this may not be appropriate as it isn't acid jazz. Slap-wrist!)

    Carl
