    thirsty for knowledge

    newsgroups
i'm interested in the 2-step & downtempo lists,
so pretty please throw an instruction up here

    the ambient@hyperreal.org list is ok
if you want to read countless discussions about brian eno, music
to have babies to, music to meditate to, but i've learned a lot on that list.

the idm list can be trying, as long as you have either
    1) a filter or 2) set up an exclusive hotmail account for it so you
can trash your whole inbox and 3) dont mind flame wars, go...

i sit on the uk-dance list, but dont recommend for anything because it seems
like a very closed group of about 50 people either promoting stuff or
    talking about cheese!

    newsletters:
i find that a lot of large websites have newsletters, like i get
rapstation.com newsletter, soulsister, some record for sale lists -
i'm sure everyone on this list has their favourite on-line purchasing
website & get the news of whats for sale and a few other hiphop
    sites send out newsletters
dropping science, whenever a site looks good & offers a newsletter, i sign
up for it, ninja has a newsletter, and we're getting bit more regular
with it, and i get ubiquity, carpark, and lots of news from labels
just by joining the mailing lists on the labels sites.

    record label website forums:
this can be good & helpful if you're after specific info on a label.
warning: the warp forum can be like the idm list, and if you think
the BOC peadophiles was one weird post, try lurking on their forum for a day.
    filled with red snapper slammers.
the ninjatune and mowax forums are helpful & i'd be interested to know what
other record labels have forums... ninja put up a links section of
'labels like us' but havent had the time to check all the labels &
    their forums... you can
    learn so much this way.

    reference websites:
in doing some research, i discovered http://www.descarga.com which has loads of
info on latin music, someone else passed me a load of funk reference
websites as i'm researching old American 7"s funk and soul. i'd love
a selection of good links to learn more about music and wish people
would/could post more info like this - the rains begun in england
again, nothing like surfing the web on a rainy weekend!
