i have almost never played a night club where some supercilious idiot and those are equally divided genderwise, did not come up to me and ask me to play something so totally out of touch with reality in terms of what i was playing that i just smile and nod my head like a dime-store puppet. if most of the people there are having a good time and dancing and i am having a good time, then it's OK. I try to be a sprofessional as possible and i am happy to connect with people who want to know what i played etc but there is no way to please everyone in a club since the demon alcohol (and probably other substances!) has probably dulled their senses! it's part of working clubs, putting up with these people but i just try to totally rock the house and ignore the inevitable quackers. the key person to please after myself is the one who will be paying me, especially if i want to work there again. there is no way around some of the pitfalls of playing in a place where people are going to get drunk or loaded or both, it's the name of that game, i just try to be as professional as possible!
