After building a huge buzz around their so-called Nortec sound, Fussible
finally played Mexico City. The second of the Parador Analogo vs Nortec
nights at La Perla, downtown Mexico City was an awesome affair, one of the
best club nights I have experienced ever. A Dj whose name I do not
remember (but whom I met later and was a very cool guy, whose accent told
me came also from the North) starting heating up the night with some nice
drum and basses: not too jazzy, not too fierce, not the usual jump up
stuff heard around these parts. At midnight, he was followed by live act
Smoke, a very cool combo of guitar and electronics which plays a very laid
back mix of jazz and drum and bass. Nothing to change the face of music,
but with enough soul and funk to keep the dancers goings and the mexican
electronica-heads impressed (needless to say, the attendance that night
read almost like a who's-who in the current mexican electronic music
scene. I had a chance to meet a couple of musicians I had only heard and
everybody was friendly. It was also a very good 'networking' night for the
mexican scene). Finally, at one am, Fussible took the DJ booth (no actual
stage in such a small cantina) openning with an awesome Nortec track. For
those who have not heard Fussible's brand of Nortec, it is nothing but San
Francisco style deep house with a little bit of Cumbia added in. A common
comment overheard all through the night was that to call Fussible's music
'Nortec' may be a misnomer, but well. . . ) From then on, they started
alternating between breakbeat and Nortec tracks. I did not recognize
anything from his awesome 'Fono' album, so I assume they were playing new
stuff. The end of their set was blended into an awesome DJ set by Pepe Mogt
himself. All through the night, there was almsot no empty space on the
dance floor and the dancers had to take over every space on the cantina
which was not taken by a table. My table was at the bottom of the place,
between the DJ booth and the restrooms, so I did not see or hear anythign
about it, but it seems like there were some trouble at the door, because
the place filled up very early and extra people actually 'broke in' the
place, and some other problems for which the organizers apologized to us
after leaving, but I actually found the whole night spotless. Cannot wait
    for that Palm Pictures' release!
