I think that we have to look at and enjoy this series for what it is, an
overview for people who might love music but who do not have much broadband
knowledge regarding jazz. In my humble (well, occasionally humble!) opinion,
the people who post here and who know something about jazz and love it, are
going to find all sorts of shortcomings in the series and that a major
number of real innovators and explorers have been left out or paid scant
attention. To me, the good point about the series is that it will hopefully
turn some more people onto jazz and it's offshoots and they will grow from
there and add to the ranks of the fans who love it, know a lot about it and
who are eager students of the expansion of the genre! It is up to radio DJ's
and live DJ's to interpret the music that is jazz into their mixes in such a
way as to get people more excited than they might already be and to
demonstrate the true depths, meanings and extrapolations of the music that
is jazz, that, to my way of thinking, is a mission for many of us posting
here!
