I just got home from seeing McCoy Tyner at Yoshi's in Oakland CA.
UNBELIEVABLE! McCoy, Terrance Blanchard on Trumpet, George Coleman, Sax,
Charnet Moffet, Bass & the amazing Brian Blade on Drums. I feel that I just
witnessed perhaps the last of the "real" thing. McCoy is better than ever.
But the true stars of the show were definitely the rhythm section...Charnet
and Brian drove the show. I feel blessed to last year have seen Elvin Jones
and now to have seen McCoy Tyner. It almost makes up for being to young to
ever see Coltrane. Anyway, if you get a chance to see McCoy (he won't be
around forever)...do yourself a favor. I go this Weds. to see McCoy again
but this time in trio form with Stanley Clark and Al Foster (I'll probably
just cut my hands off after that).
Hope all is well,
Frank Swart
