You should definitely check out the Rotary Connection version as there is a
breakdown in the middle that Nuyorican Soul didn't add to their cover.
Something like "I'm a tall oak tree...". I think it might have made it onto
the 4Hero remix as their version was much more faithful to the original.
If you look for a website dedicated to Rotary Connection/Minnie Riperton you
may find the lyrics there but I'd recommend seeking out the original. BGP
released two Rotary Connection albums 'Songs' and 'Hey Love' on one cd that
you should be able to pick up at www.dustygroove.com . 'Songs' is just
covers of tunes like Respect, Got my mojo working and Sunshine of your love
but in completely different arrangements to normal thanks to Charles
Stepney's luscious strings. 'Hey Love' is all original tunes but with the
same superb production. Definitely worth purchasing and great for bathtime
singalongs!
By the way, I think the original version is also on the Gilles Peterson
Desert Island mix cd that come out a couple of years ago.

Nu Yorican Soul remade this song. The original is by Rotary Connection
released in 1971 on their Hey Love album. I have no clue about where to find
the lyrics. Off the top of my head I think they say "I am the dark side of
the sun, shadows that light up the day... darkness show the way". Not sure
though. Listen to the original and you may be able to understand them
better, but as i recall Nu Yorican Soul didn't change the song all that
much.
