Keyser & Shuriken - newsletter #50: Golden Gorillaz

    Newsflash 15.03.2001

    Dear friends,

This is the 50th edition of our newsletters and we are still not tired to keep it
going out. (We have managed to share information, ideas, texts and experiences and
have fun at the same time over a long period now!) The news of the week is definitely
us getting recognised by the Hungarian music biz. The Golden Giraffe Award is given
out each year as the most prestigious award of the Hungarian music scene (nominations
are done by top music journalist, the event is held by MAHASZ, the Association of
Hungarian Record Companies, etc.). This year's "Best Cover/remix album" award went
for Kispalramix, a remix album for the Hungarian alternative rock-band, Kispal es a
Borz. We are proud to be part of this success with our mellow remix for their "Mar
Dalutan" song on this album. We are really glad that the otherwise rather
conservative music industry also awarded our friend Yonderboi with a Golden Giraffe
(Best Up and Coming Artist) for "Shallow and Profound", his debut album, released on
    the Mole label. Congratulations!

Spring has finally reached Budapest - even though it is raining right now - and we
are completely flipped out from our regular mode, watching the girls - in
mini-skirts! yesssss! - go by. For this we have this incredible soundtracks still
ringing in our ears from the night before as we are sipping on our cappuccinos in
downtown cafés. Shuriken still can't get back to everyday life after yesterday's
heavy partying at Rigoletto (www.rigoletto.hu). This trendy Bar/Cocktail lounge is
giving home for the Jazzkeddv (www.jazz.rigoletto.hu) clubnights presented by
Badihali (one of the greatest jazz & funk collectors in town) & Sanyi (Badi's partner
in djing and life, a female dubadelic selecta with academic insight in cultural
matters) - on Tuesdays. Now they started a very special Wednesday night with the
musical guidance of Mr Tristam Shandy (bedroom-disco specialist, Keyser's partner in
the Csoko Matine project. Check the demo version of his new tune in the radio mix!) &
Pedro (the vinylist). The grand opening was done in a subtle style: even the lack of
flyers couldn't keep the crowd (those fabulous girls again...!) away from the place.
Shuriken had the honour of spinning with these great guys as the guest-dj of the
night, getting high on Daiquiry fuelled strawberry cocktails and good music.

This week's short reading is about the basic life of the gorillas:

"Gorillas are shy and peaceful. The only natural enemy of gorillas has always been
human beings. Gorillas are still hunted for meat and trophies in some parts of
Africa, and they are caught in traps set for other animals. In the past, whenever an
infant gorilla was captured for a zoo, the mother and often the other members of the
family were killed as they defended the baby. Now the most serious threat to
free-living gorillas is the human population explosion. As more and more people take
over the land for agriculture, logging and other development, gorillas have nowhere
    left to go."

Treat the gorillas as you want to be treated.
