    Hey All,

Been lurking for a good couple of years after a initial flurry of posts, but
can't keep my mouth shut about this.

Picked up a new US release from Bluenote, Soulive - "Doin' Something" - and
gave it a first listen last night. Grabbed me by the ass from the first note
and never let go. Can't think of enough superlatives to describe it - for me
it's a perfect reflection of what many of you recently tried to define as
'our music'. It's an amazing mix of jazz, blues, swing, R&B and more, all
with an unbelievably funky backbone. An organic live sound with just a touch
of electronic wizardry. This thing dives and soars and just grooves like
mad! My undisputed best of the year so far among some other great stuff.

Soulive is an trio composed of Eric Krasno on guitar, Neal Evans on Hammond
B-3, wurlitzer, and piano, and brother Alan Evans on drums. The album
features Fred Wesley (JB's) on trombone and horn arrangements on 3 tracks
and Stepanie McKay singing on a killer R&B cut - "Romantic" (the only track
    with vocals).

CD sticker: "Soulive is the rare groove trio for the new millenium. A blazin
mix of jazz, soul, funk & hip-hop.

Excerpts from the liner notes by Eli Wolf: "...to describe Soulive as simply
an organ trio would be enormously inadequate. - While this album possesses
the character of an old jazz record in that it was, for the most part,
recorded live, it also has the sound of a bangin' hip-hop record. Just
listen to how the bass of the organ thumps and the snare hits you in the
face throughout the disc. In this way, "Doin Something" is the first of its
kind - a record by an organ trio to be played on your high-end stereo or
    bumped in your Jeep."
