Hi AJ,
About the current discussion about Satellite Records. Iīve never ordered at Satellite, nor did I visit the site.
Fact is that itīs extremely important for those online stores to realize that customers put trust in something they canīt see, hear, or feel. And that they are extremely disappointed when something goes wrong, or at least different to their expectations. Stores have to avoid a situation of turning ordering into a kind of cybertarot, because it might turn into a bad card........
I once ordered a new record at Dusty Groove, and it arrived scratched. I mailed them, told the story and they directly send me a new one (I could stay with the damaged one). This makes me return there, simple because this kind of service substitutes the absence of having the material in your hands.
cheers,
Xander

i have friends that work at satellite so i understand their frame of mind. in fact, i just put in an order with their new york store on wednesday and i'm not really expecting it to be fulfilled. i have a feeling someone else might gank my prized 12" before it ends up in my package.
the stock at satellite is like a river with rapids and dangerous rocky outcroppings. the used record stores in my immediate neigborhood are like stagnant ponds crusted with algae. groovedis is like a pleasant lake with a tire swing and picnic tables. dusty grooves makes for a good weeklong canoe excursion. cdnow and amazon are like the pacific and the atlantic. and mp3's on the net are like rain from the sky above.

Subject: Satellite records...
Greetings all,
I seem to remember a thread on here a few months ago about online record
shops. I don't remember if Satellite was one of the places discussed, but I
was wondering if anyone here had used them before, and if so, what do you
think? I don't know, I get kind of a funky vibe from the site ( order the
records, and we'll see what we can get you? What's that about? ).
Any feedback would be appreciated, peace ...
