disclaimer: i am not *advocating* drug use, just a
    fair view of the situation.

    > > What a waste of a gifted man. Drugs suck.

drugs, per se, don't suck--*addiction* to them sucks.

example: many people have a problem w/controlling
their alchohol intake, while many others (including
people on this list) enjoy a good pint, glass of wine,
or mixed drink. the only difference to me is that
alchohol is legal and therefore regulated for
quality/content--i.e., if people die from drinking a
particular spirit, etc. the company manufacturing it
is legally responsible. with "illicit" substances
"you pays your money, you take your chances..."

keep in mind, during prohibition in the u.s. (we
outlawed purchase and consumption of alchohol in the
early 20th century) the same kind of thing was
happening with "moonshine" (illegal grain alchohol) as
we have now with crack cocaine and extacy--people were
    dying from drinking impure liquor.

    > In agreement with you, drugs make men/women turn

i beg to differ with that. many respected artists and
intellectuals have been drug users--and it wasn't
considered problematic. aldous huxley ("brave new
world") was a proponent of lsd, as was *john coltrane*
(read about the recording of "om"). carlos casteneda
is famous for his peyote experiences--he started out
as a student just trying to get a buzz and ended up on
    a spiritual quest.

i'll agree that gil needed the
    intervention--desperately--but the problem isn't the
drugs, it was his denial of his abuse.

i feel the same way about gambling, but again the
problem is *addiction*, not the drug use/gambling.

    > Not even marijuana.

do you drink alchohol? that is a drug also...
