I just returned from the 'Sisters of Hip-Hop & Soul' tour at the
Fillmore where I caught great sets by India.Arie, Kelis, Goapelle,
Mystic and Lina, so I'm tired and just about ready to hit the sack.
But before I do, here's a preview of tonight's show:

Two great compilations turned up at the 11th hour last week. The
first was the eagerly anticipated "Sincerely Yours" CD that gathers
up the various 12"s released by the Klein label in the past year and
bundles them together with eight new tracks and assorted reworks from
Uko, Sofa Surfers, Mum, Seelenluft and others. "A Family Affair"
comes courtesy of Vienna Scientists and offers stellar selections
from The Funky Lowlives, Quantic, Menheads, Micatone and more.

In the past several days more collections arrived in the post,
including an advance copy of "All Our Eggs In One Basket" - the first
label retrospective from Freerange Records. Recent hits by Jimpster,
Shur-I-Kan , Yennah and Square One make this a must-have, but if
their Webpage is correct, it won't be available in retail shops until
the end of January. "Abstract Afro-Lounge III" has been out for
awhile, but it's new to this program. It's been difficult of late to
get through a show without one or two Afrobeat tracks, so this
excellent mix of tribal rhythms and deep house is just what the
    doctor ordered.

Speaking of Afrobeat, I'm completely nuts over "Psyco On Da Bus" - a
collaboration of Tony Allen, Doctor L and others that brings together
influences from Africa and Jamaica and infuses them with an ambient,
jazzy flavor. One of those albums that immediately provokes curiosity
from anyone who hears it. I also love the Ananda Project's
"Re-Release" - new interpretations of the tracks on "Release" from
familiar names such as Blu Mar Ten, Kyoto Jazz Massive, Blaze, Little
    Louie Vega and King Britt.

Last but not least, there's "Experience: Jill Scott 826+" that's not
one, but two discs containing both live and new studio material. The
live versions of music from her first album are electric and benefit
from state-of-the-art recording. The new tracks lean towards a more
laid-back, jazzy vibe and highlights include collaborations with 4
Hero and Common. Undoubtedly, one for the Christmas stocking.

That's it for this week - ciao for now,
    David
