Hi all,
Just wanted to do a little promotion for this Afronaught show coming up
tomorrow night in San Jose. This is a rare treat for the South Bay, and I
would like to encourage everyone in the area to attend. Help support
underground sounds in San Jose! Thanks,
Mark Turner/DJ Rocky Rococo

Orin Walters, the artist otherwise known as Afronaught, has a rich history
in the electronic music scene. Here is a biography of what he's been up to
for the past 14 years. Be sure to check out his latest album entitled
"Shaping Fluid" on R&S records.
'88/'90
: First started listening to electronic dance music, checking House on the
pirates
and early warehouse raves.
'91/'92
: Started making trax as 'Spank Da Monkey', 'Works of Art' and 'Obsession'
and set
up Mousetrap records. DJing on various pirates such as Power, Girls and
Faze 1
FM and organising some of the most notorious warehouse parties while
holding
residencies at The Astoria, Busby's and other quality London House nights.
'93-'95 :
After spending almost a year running clubs such as 'The Shelter' and
'Ka-Boom' in Chicago with DJs like Derrick Carter, Spencer Kincy, Ralphi
Rosario
and
Mark Farina he returned to the UK to a residency at 'Ronnie Scott's'
spinning
US
Garage and House. Around the same time Orin started working seriously in the
studio
with fellow DJs Phil Asher (as Blak n' Spanish), Daz-I-Kue, Rocky & Diesel,
Dom
Moir & Booker T for releases on Mousetrap with producers like Smack and
MAW
being the main influences.
'95/'96 :
These mutual influences and mutual friend, Phil Asher hooked him up with
Seiji,
and Mousetrap promptly released Seiji's first 'Disorient' project. Founded
new
label
Suckers Need Bass, with the first release, 'Hear My Call' by Basshook &
Friends
released in the U.S. on the legendary Emotive Records.
'97 :
Closed down Mousetrap Records after 30 odd releases and Suckers Need
Bass.
Seiji brought Alex Phountzi and Kaidi Tatham to an already close group
including Scott Clifford and Daz-I-Kue which sparked the beginning of Bugz
in the
Attic,
now a burgeoning collective of DJs, producers and musicians which has gone
from
strength to strength producing tracks, LPs and remixes for scores of quality
labels
(see discography).
The
last few years have seen Orin exploring new musical territories and pushing
the
boundaries of many styles under the names Afronaught and Neon Phusion (with
Kaidi
Tatham and Alex Phountzi), while U.S. Collective, Everyday People and Soul
Tuition
are collaborations harking back to his House roots.
This
year sees him releasing his debut Afronaught LP, 'Shapin Fluid', including
the
seminal, 'Transcend Me', on Apollo/R&S, recording Orange Water for Archive
Records
(Italy), Everyday People for Earth Projects (UK), a second Neon Phusion
LP for
Laws of Motion (UK) in addition to working on projects with other innovative
producers/musicians like Domu, Mark de Clive-Lowe, Phil Asher, Kaidi Tatham,
Daz-I-Kue and the rest of the Bugz in the Attic crew.
Strengthening the label, Bitasweet, developing the new Bugz in the Attic
label and
Djing
at more cutting edge clubs/events world-wide are also major priorities for
Orin
this
year.
See you there!
Sincerely,
The Three Amigos of Mondorama
