I really like this album Malik and crew have created an album filled with
some good songs all arranged and settled into a bed of very good modern
sounds and rhythms. The coloring of the acoustic song element with the
great electronic textures makes for a wonderful package as far as I am
concerned. The electronic rhythms range from drum and bass-like stuff to
some nice jazzy flavors and all of it is overlaid with Maliks voice a
warm sound all of its own. The songs themselves range from a Bill
Withers cover to some ethnic ditties from Maliks African heritage and I
like the range of it all. Since I love African music I am always happy to
find albums like these that crossover into other musical regions while
keeping the flava of the original African sounds. The album has
instrumentation that goes from thumb-pianos to guitars and the usual
keyboards and it is a bit unusual for an album like this to be coming out
of Compost but I am happy to see it happen I love the idea of the Compost
catalogue getting more African sounds in it and I am thrilled at the
prospect of some of the producers in Composts stable tearing up the sort
of material Malik has created and re-stitching it for listening and the
dance floor More power to Michael Reinboth and Crew for this album and
the continued excellence of the label as a whole.
