Yes, well, I'd like to think that we're moving towards read/write digital.
I wasn't really seeing a CD/vinyl dichotomy. Regardless CDs require a
fraction of the resources to manufacture than vinyl. Also, there is an
economy of scope since CDs can be used for any digital file. Consequently,
CDs are cheaper to make. The fact that CD's didn't lower the cost of albums
was a suprise to some economists. Remember that? There was a class-action
lawsuit settled recently that determined that record companies had been
price-gauging. Anybody that's purchased cd's can submit their name and cd
list to a registry and actually get paid for some percentage of the
discrepancy.
I don't quite see the orchestra/jukebox thing as the same debate,
