Very true. Think about what is on the market now, in
terms of "world music". If you look, you can find a
lot of older albums on vinyl, of course. But no one
in these countries are producing them anymore, simply
because of costs and the fact that a lot of people
tossed out their turntables in the mid-80's.
Even major labels are very selective. I had written
to Blue Note about wanting a recent Greg Osby album on
vinyl, and they said it's not feasible, and they would
only release vinyl by an artist that would be
accessible to DJ's. I thought wait, DJ's aren't the
only ones using vinyl these days, there is an
incredible amount of people who will still listen just
to listen.
But Blue Note have eaten their words, now that they've
pressed up Norah Jones' album.
