    hey there everyone,

Wooo-hoooo, glide wednesdays are officially FIVE years young! We've been
celebrating with a series of special shows, including the wicked,
completely sold-out January 23rd guest appearance by Twilight Circus Dub
Sound System. Thank-you to all those who made it out that night, and
once again, a HUGE thanks to all who have supported glide on an ongoing
basis. You're why we're still here, mixing up the many sounds that are
    close to our hearts!

We continue the celebrations with a (red) hotly tipped appearance
tonight, Wednesday February 6, by transplanted T.O. (by way of Dundas,
Ontario) electronic producer MANITOBA. I've been championing his sounds
since he first passed me a CD-R almost two years ago, so I'm extra
excited that he's paying a visit from his new home in London, England in
order to mark five years of glide goodness with us.

BTW, if you're not familiar with Dan Snaith, aka Manitoba's, creations
and story, check NOW magazine's COVER story for the scoop, including at
    http://www.nowtoronto.com/issues/2002-01-31/cover_story.php

Also read about Greg Clow, our other guest for the eve, in a piece I
    wrote for eye weekly:

Read on for full details about the gig, including a few tips for those
concerned about getting in, and a ticket giveaway!

    MANITOBA (mini-bio)
One year ago, few had heard of Dundas, Ontario native Dan Snaith, a.k.a.
classically trained, jazz and hip-hop loving electronic music producer
MANITOBA. Start Breaking My Heart, his debut album for the U.K.ís
innovative Leaf Label, changed all that. With intense and immediate
response coming from the likes of Gilles Peterson, DJ Food, LTJ Bukem,
Andy Weatherall and Ross Allen, Snaith soon found himself to be a man of
the moment. The latter half of 2001 saw him DJíing throughout the U.K.,
France, Japan and beyond, including at the infamous Big Chill Fest, and
recording / performing with friend + musical mentor Kieran Hebden a.k.a.
Four Tet. Having relocated from Toronto to London, U.K. to further his
math studies, the beat-heavy, melodic experimentalist has also been
working on new material for a 2002 release. Home to take part in glideís
anniversary celebrations, MANITOBA will perform his first-ever live P.A.
in Toronto and drop some new ish on us all! www.posteverything.com/leaf

Now, there's been lots of concern from people about not being able to
get in to the show due to the massive interest and buzz floating 'round
town. While no promoter can ever predict exactly how busy something is
going to be, I do have a strong sense that this gig will definitely sell
out and yes, do expect there to be lineups. A few tips to pass along to
those of you on this e-list, trying to help out those who've long been
    supporting and showing interest:

ï I suggest arriving early (well before 10pm) or late into the evening
(post midnight) in order to better your odds at getting in, as the
lineup should be smaller at those times.

ï Doors open at 8pm and we'll be going until 3am. Set times: Andrew
Allsgood and I will open up, followed by Greg Clow at 10pm, myself for a
short set in between, and Manitoba will perform a live PA and DJ from
11:30pm - 1:30am. We've extended his set to two hours due to
    overwhelming demand.

ï We are wiring the sound from downstairs up into the Hooch on the
second floor in order to accommodate more people and have them also be
able to enjoy the same sounds all eve!

ï A reminder that there are NO advance tickets. The guest list has also
had to be closed. However, it's only $6 at the door in order to make it
accessible and that much more of a celebration.

Better still for a couple lucky souls out there... we're offering up
tickets to the first TWO people to email me after 1pm on Wednesday Feb 6
and tell me where Dundas, Ontario is in relation to Manitoba :-) I will
    email back the winners.

      ------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Also coming up at glide.....

on your time and space. If you would prefer not to be on this mailing
list, just lemme know and off your name shall go! Feel free to let
friends know they can subscribe. Thanks.
