    the dj profiles,

    chocolate
Lauren is a good friend to so many of us and this party is partially in celebration of her birthday.  She started the women dj collective Chicks Dig It (who play every monday night at Temple Bar) and also runs the Scratch Free Press, where lots of musicians get their music cut onto vinyl.  Shešs always ! on the go (and usually late) but somehow manages to juggle school, her press business, teaching, djing, and trying to keep the 16 Chicks who Dig behaving.  If you hadnšt guessed by looking at her dreads, she plays yummy reggae music, bruk beats, and jungly goodness.

    the reverend  10 - 11 (with chocolate)
Therešs not enough positive words to describe and do justice to Robert, and though we know hešll blush when he reads this (all that and hešs humble too) we think hešs the most lovable dj in the line up.  Hešs wise, and spiritual purveyor of chunky, extra bassy dub and jungle.  Hešs an astute herbalist with his own health store in Ajax (?!), plays the best in conscious reggae and dub, AND also plays dubby tech-house and drum n bass too.  You can see why he and Chocolate were meant to play together!

    ! friendlyman  11 - 12
You can summarize Friendly in one word:  BOOM!  Hešs the MC and reggae king of Toronto.  For our party, hešll be working his magic on the decks in a mix up stylee, as well as intelligent toasting on the mic.  And, you know that wonderful deep and rumbly feeling you get in the pit of your stomach when great bass happens on great systems?  Well, Friendly is the master of bringing that sensation.  Itšs momentous, youšre not sure what genre of music is being played and you donšt care because itšs all good.

    dalia  12 - 1
The most beautiful person (inside and out), Daliašs one good dj.  She plays a mix of deep n delicious house beats, with a healthy dollop of funk and jazz to boot.  Dalia is part of Chicks Dig It and has a! show on CHRY, wednesday nights 6 - 8pm.  Dalšs been co-hosting this radio show for 7 years!  Big ups to her and her co-host, Tash.  Anyway, you donšt want to miss her set - her blend of fine mixing and awesome beats will have you shaking your head and your bum will follow.

    richard brooks  1 - 2
Who amongst us hasnšt been to an RNB party?!  Natalie and Richard are the gracious hosts of this fine Toronto party tradition.  Richard is an amazing dj and producer as well.  His record label, Chorduroy, is racking up major play time and also employs the coolest and most innovative record sleeves ever.  One of the godfathers of the Toronto house music scene, Rick is an awesome member of our line-up and wešre so happy to be having him play.  His music is a stellar blend of soulful and deep house - an absolutely necess! ary and fortifying addition to any warehouse party.

    sugar daddy moth  2 - 3
Okay, everybody, hold on.  One of the original djs who made people go out to parties to begin with is here in the T-Dot.  Scott is one of the heroes of the days of yore - Transcendance, Alien Visitation, Moontribe, The Guerilla Gatherings, and Destiny.  His impeccable mixing, scratching, and huge range of beats and tempos set him in a class of his own as a party dj - expect nice breaks, house, the chunkiest 2-step, and who knows what.  He played Laurenšs birthday party seven and four years ago and shešs been thinking about those sets ever since.  Sugar Daddy Moth is coming in from out of town as a gift for Lauren.

    jarkko  3 - 4
Alongside Sugar Daddy Mot! h, Jarkko helped to set the Toronto dj standard way back in the day.  Known as the absolute nicest guy around, and one of the bestest selectors at any party, Jarkko is a gem.  The smoothest of the smooth, and the creator of a vibe that is succulent and harmonious in any celebratory context, and wešre thrilled to have the 'Purveyor of Fire' (as Jarkko's known).  Breaks, drum n bass, dub, and tech house in an astonishing blend have all been known to fly out from under his capable fingers, and we know that whatever he touches will turn into audio gold friday night.

    steve yanko  4 - 5
Steve made us jump up and down when he said that hešd play at the party.  Hešs a bomb music producer on the Play Records roster and if therešs any chance that youšre getting tired at 4am Stevešll take that opinion, turn it on its ass, and make you dance till you forget t! hat itšs nearly time for breakfast.  There was a release party a couple of months ago where he blew our minds, and made us dance until 7 in the morning when we had to work that day.  Itšs safe to s ay that therešs no one who rocks it quite like Steve, and wešre rubbing our hands together in gleeful anticipation of his set.

    rollinš cash 5 onwards
The groovemaster of the Phader Pilots, this big, friendly boy has been taking the breaks world by storm.  He can scratch, he can cut, AND he has good taste in music.  He shook the Om festival to the core with his crazy set before Banco de Gaia and has been tearing it up all over ever since.   Roland is one of the best turntablists around with a great track selection to back up those skillz, and hešs also a really fun and playful dj.  Itšll be worth staying until the end just to hear the booming, bassy, bumping beats of the! friday night IV Lounge champion - and we know youšll go home happy afterward.
