Just viewing the archives and noticed couple of magic
words. Akufen being one of them. I have a bit of
Akufen stuff, his work is absolutely amazing,
surgicaly re-instated in an automated yet creative
way.
Last week end was Mutek in Montreal, I had a chance to
see Akufen, copacabannark, Libdo and RadioBoy
(Herberts political statement in music) followed by
the next night of Villalobos, Farben, Losoul and
Luomo. It was racking!
The time before I saw Akufen as Montreal Smoke Meat
Micro show on Force inc records. He really shined. He
has a way of using familiar radio show sounds (locally
anyways) and turn voices, bandshift, jingles and music
(never more that 6 seconds really), and turn it into a
soulfull organic house, injecting electo-guitar and
accordeon sounds on the go. He also has a great talent
to flair just within the limit of joyfoul micro house
and full blown beats.
The Mighty Kat mix session is a tribute to the
Montreal-tech movement and very well presented in it's
flow. Mighty Kat will be spinning for the Herbert
after party for the Jazz fest in Montreal. If you want
to explore this sound more, the label of choice is
Force-Inc and afiliates who have an office in
Montreal, traum, Kompact, trapez and Perlon.
I would say the Montreal smoke meat album on Force is
a great example.
So Dakati you are not wrong, it is great music and
Akufen is in very high demand these days.
BTW I saw Jazzanova last year at the Jazz fest (as
DJ's only, 3 of them were spinning). That night, Bugge
Wesseltoft (sorry spelling) was really good, they
never really lifted the crowd, but the sound of their
remix was really bad. It was a technical problem.
On the other hand, I'm sure seeing a live electronic
set must be very good.
