Yall ever watch the cartoon show "Pinky & the Brain"?
The saga of Clear Channel Communications and it seemingly endless quest for WORLDWIDE DOMINATION of COMMUNICATIONS MEDIA reminds me of the central character of that cartoon show.
Now we find out that their attempts to exercise near FASCIST LIKE MIND CONTROL over the music and information that we as consumers get, now extends into the UK.
I realize that Black folks aren't supposed to care about this type of issue, right?

I mean, just give us some music, let us keep our jheri curls, our 15 inch fingernails, give us a bag of weed and some grits & fatback to eat when we have the munchies, and we will be happy, right?

    * A few weeks ago, folks were here WHINING about the Format change of 105.1 in NYC from Classic Soul to rap music.
Guess who OWNS 105.1 in NYC????????
    (Clear Channel Communications)

    * Guess who stands to benefit the most if independent webcasters are shut down because they stream more KB of music on the internet than anyone else does????????
    (Clear Channel Communications)

    * Guess who owns a big piece of the stock of XM RADIO???????
    (Clear Channel Communications)

    * Guess who owns most of the mid level 3,000 - 10,000 seat) concert venues in the United States???????
    (Clear Channel Communications)

    * Guess who FREEZES OUT and prevents the masses of music fans from hearing the NEW MUSIC of some of Soul-Patrol's favorite artists (the Dells, Dawn Silva, Mandrill, Rio Soul, Ray Goodman & Brown, Carlton Smith, Victor Wooten, Malia Franklin, Sandra St. Victor, Billy Paul, Tyrone Davis, Mighty Sam, etc) from the airways because of PAYOLA?????????
    (Clear Channel Communications)

    * Guess why you get to hear the MANUFACTURED CRAP on the radio you get to hear???????
    (Clear Channel Communications)

Well this is one Black person who doesn't need a bottle of Jheri Curl juice.
Because the more and more I learn about the business activities of Clear Channel Communications, it MAKES MY HAIR STRAIGHT!!!!!!

Listener Figures Up Chances of Jazz FM Bidding War
    Thu May 9,10:26 AM ET
    By Mark Potter

LONDON (Reuters) - Britain's Jazz FM achieved record listening figures in the first quarter of this year, according to industry figures published on Thursday, raising the prospect of a bidding war for the local radio station. Privately-owned Guardian Media Group Plc unveiled a 41 million pound ($60 million) bid for Jazz FM Plc on Tuesday, saying it had the support of shareholders owning 50.5 percent of the radio station, which plays jazz to audiences in London and north-west England.

But Jazz FM's largest investor, U.S. radio giant Clear Channel International Ltd, said it would withdraw its support for Guardian's 180-pence per share bid if a rival bid over 220-pence per share was tabled within 10 working days. Andrew Walsh, analyst at Altium Capital, said Jazz FM's first quarter listening figures raised the chances of a bid over 220p within the seven remaining business days.

Radio Audience Joint Research Limited (RAJAR) said on Thursday total weekly listening hours for Jazz FM reached 6.7 million in the first three months of this year, an 86 percent increase on the previous quarter and up 48 percent on the year.

Using this figure, an offer of 220 pence per share, or around 50 million pounds, would price Jazz FM around 7.5 pounds per listener hour, Altium Capital's Walsh calculated.

"In the context of increased audience figures and Tuesday's Communications Bill, 220 pence does not look expensive," he said, noting that most recent purchases of radio stations have been priced over 10 pounds per listener hour.

On Tuesday, the British government unveiled plans to relax restrictions on media ownership, a move which is expected to spark a flurry of takeover activity in the radio industry.

Walsh added his calculations did not include the value of Jazz FM's non-radio assets, such as its CD compilations business, which account for more than a half of revenues.

Analysts said GWR Group Plc, which operates Classic FM, would be an obvious suitor for Jazz FM, but that it was restricted by current media ownership rules.

"I'd have thought any UK radio group that had the regulatory capability to do a deal would certainly be interested," Walsh said.
