The way I see it, if you're able to play and pack 500 seat venues, you're
not dead... even if you're barely kicking.
-----
acid jazz was never a sound in my opinion, it was an era. that era is dead
(you can't go back in time) so st germain cannot be acid jazz or from that
era. if you've read about the way the term 'acid jazz' came into existance
and was bastardised into a soundform by a satirical argument against the
current acid house boom when it was really just a ressurgence of quality
black-inspired soul music and jazz dance in the late eighties and early
nineties admidst the current acid house rumblings.
can you really describe acid jazz anyways? you can't, it's impossible
because all the artists you've listed have totally different sounds and
influences?

So why do we have to decide between classic and modern? Why do we have to
"kill" one to enjoy the other? Can't MJ Cole and Jimmy Smith all get along?
-----
kill one??? it died by itself. i enjoy jimmy smith and mj cole but face
the facts, they are not the same style of music. i'm not beating you with a
stick, i just want to let you know that i think it isn't the same. could
you imagine keb darge's face if you said that you liked the funk that
samantha fox put out? he'd probably ask to leave the building immediately.
it would be nice if we had a genre-less world but you'd be having a tough
time describing your musical influences or current favourites. :)
All the best,

"I got into a fight one time with a really big guy and he said, 'I'm going
to mop the floor with your face.' I said 'You'll be sorry.' He said 'Oh
yeah. Why?' I said, 'Well, you won't be able to get into the corners very
well.'"
