I haven't seen (DJ) Cam's "Soulshine" mentioned anywhere, but I
checked it on on a listening stand** on saturday and it's barely
been out of my player since. Very smooth, soulful & funky
production, mostly downtempo with some house stuff creeping in.
Nice horn arrangements throughout and some very tasty bass playing
on three of the tracks. The highlight for me so far (and probably
the track that made it an instant purchase) is "Love Junkee"
featuring Cameo. Yes, _that_ Cameo. While the vocals are
unmistakably Larry & company, the track actually sounds quite
Donald Fagen-ish, which with the horn section and the
aforementioned tasty bass playing comes together very nicely
indeed. There's one slightly duff moment on the album, "Condor"
(apparently a Dave Grusin tune) and I think six interludes is
probably three too many, even if they're quite good. At least
they're not skits. Overall this is a very nice album, and it has
Donnie guesting too. What more could you want?

**BTW, if you are in Vancouver, you should check out the expanded
Zulu Records on West 4th. This was always a nice shop, but now they
have double the floorspace and a bunch of funky homebrew 25 CD
listening stands, with a lot of interesting stuff on them too.

    ..Mark..
