    Greetings,

There's some outstanding new music that I'm hoping to get all in this evening.

"Cosmo Afrique" from Obafunke is a futuristic look at African rhythm
and melody with production and programming assistance from King
Britt...Ruisart hails from Guerrero, Mexico and feature the Nortec
Collective's Fussible on their debut album, "Acapulco Now!" This is
electronica infused with creativity, humor and soul that could wind
near the top of the best-of-the-year chart....Meshell Ndegecello
mixes sex and politics with a whole lotta soul on "Cookie: The
Anthropological Mixtape" and while mostly a slow downtempo affair,
the lyrics are much more upbeat than on her last album,
"Bitter."....speaking of downtempo, Skip McDonald and Adrian Sherwood
get deep into the blues with "Hard Grind," the third album from
Little Axe. The rest of the Sugarhill gang (Doug Wimbush and Keith
LeBlanc) are along for the ride.......Super Collider are Christian
Vogel and Jamie Lidell - two seasoned techno producers who return
with their second collaboration in three years - one that proves
electronic music can be very, very funky......

As far as compilations go, the Swiss Straight Ahead label have
released one of the best with "One Step Ahead 2." Featured artists
include Hidden Agenda, Sequel, Wah-Chu-Ku, Tweak and others.
"Instrumentals: Staedtizism 3" fuses the glitchy bleeps of Jan
Jelinek, John Tejada and Thomas Fehlmann with hip-hop, making for a
most interesting hybrid. Glitch-hop anyone? "Constant Elevation" from
Astralwerks also finds some of the genre's top artists laying down
the phat beats, much of them exclusive to this collection. El-P,
Recloose, Steinski, Peanut Butter Wolf, Madlib and Freestyle
    Fellowship all contribute.

Singles-wise, there's abstract jazz from Roomtone, classy downtempo
from Break Reform, a delightful six-track mash-up from Papa Byrd and
a Bobby Hughes-meets Etta James and Jimmy Smith 12" that should have
been on the "Verve Remixed" album.

We caught a great set from Beth Orton the other night and got to hear
a preview of several tracks from her new album due out in July. The
show was balanced with just the right amount of old and new material,
so everyone went home happy. Thanks Clint!

That's it for this week - ciao for now....

    David
