Whaddup all you beautiful peoples...
Ding ding ding! School is back in session! =20
*ruler slapping the desk*=20
You can feel the excitement in the air like that warm fuzzy feeling in =
your hand after electrocuting yourself on the wall socket. Would be =
nice to be in classes again...sleeping on the desk, books propped up =
with comics inside, snacking on tuna sandwiches during lecture, getting =
nasty looks from people seated around you. I miss those days *sigh*
The great thing about radio is that you can snack on tuna sandwiches on =
air and the only nasty looks you'll get are from those inside the studio =
with you and potentially the next programmer when they step to the mic. =
But you see, BEST KEPT SECRET is all about consideration and strictly =
eating vegetables (well, we try at least). And as we step into this 9th =
month of the year 2002, BEST KEPT is continuing its mission to bring you =
good music, great guests, and hilarity on the microphone(s).
Dalia and Venus do this hiphophousebrokebeatsjazzedoutabstractions =
mashup like this:
Wednesday nights 6-8 PM EST=20
CHRY 105.5 FM
http://www.yorku.ca/chry --->getchooself some Winamp action and you're =
ready to rock it! =20
TOOOOOONIGHT TOOOOOONIGHT TOOOOOONIGHT=20
Our special guest in the studio is the man behind Play Records here in =
Toronto, Mr. Peter Jarvis aka Peace Harvest. This label has steadily =
been expanding its profile since its inception in 1996 with a solid =
catalogue of releases from both Toronto-based producers and =
internationally-recognized musicmakers. Sounds range from sexy house =
stylings to ambient chilloutbeats to really dirty percussive numbers. =
Not only is the music dope, but the label's visual aesthetic is =
absolutely stunning as well, gracing everything from 12" jackets and =
labels, CD covers, and even the walls of parties like Movement. Their =
latest 12" release by local production duo Boogiewall SoundSystem =
entitled 'Confide in You' will be on more of a dubby tip, with some =
solid remix action by the one Mad Professor and others. =20
Peace Harvest will be gracing the decks with some seriously good chooons =
and getting on the mic to chat up what else Play Records has up its =
sleeve for the next year. For the immediate future, help celebrate the =
new Boogiewall release tomorrow night (Thurs Sept 5) at Surface (5 Brant =
Street...right at Roxy Blu) with the dubby roots riddims of DJs =
Chocolate, the Reverend, Friendlyman, and Chuckie Boom, and =
house/nujazzbiznizz with DJs Peace Harvest, Rob Nice, Steve Yanko, Neal =
Hall, Brian Ireland, and Leon Knight (phew!). Only $5 at the door and =
it runs til late...
Tune in for some giveaways and keep this number handy:

OTHER NEWS
Just wanna send much love out to everyone that came out for Venus's =
birthday celebrations on Sunday night and Monday at Chicks Dig It. If =
you missed the karaoke portion of the evening, you missed Venus doing a =
fine Axl Rose impression with 'Welcome to the Jungle' and a funkdified =
interpretation of 'House of the Rising Sun'. Really too much alcohol to =
handle, but hey! what else you gonna do on your birthday except sleep on =
the bathroom floor? Much thanks to the Lank One for getting the people =
together...you are too much! And thanks to Freedom, Onastic, and =
Soulsistah for providing the beats (and beets) on Monday night. Hugs to =
Heidi working the door and Ryan holding it down on a BBQ tip. You people =
rock shit to Russia always!
And big ups to the organizers and all those who reached down to Reclaim =
the Streets, the annual celebration of people on bikes, foot, and on =
drums that went down last Friday night. We shut down Queen and Spadina =
for a while, had cars honking both in support and exasperation, a =
dope-as-f**k samba squad leading the way, masses of people getting down =
with some chalk, and too many police officers than really required. =
Never sat in the middle of Yonge St. before! Props to Miss KLC for doing =
up some fine tunes when the sound system got set up, and love out to =
everyone who made it a peaceful, memorable event.=20
WHAT YOU NEED TO CHECK
(a) MOVIES - yup, another September also means the Toronto International =
Film Festival is back in high gear. I'll be the person in the rush =
ticket line that makes it to the front after they've filled up all the =
seats. Try to check some movies...lots of great stuff on tap this year, =
especially at Midnight Madness!=20
(b) CHICKS DIG IT - be on the lookout for new flyers and posters coming =
soon! In the meantime, reach down next MONDAY (Sept 9) to the Apothecary =
(340 Adelaide St. W at Peter) as we present another edition of Chicks =
Drag It. Featured token women will be Steve Yanko and Todd Sines LIVE. =
Remember, we need to see ANKLES, boys! And that don't mean short =
pants... Also on the decks will be DJs Chocolate, Zuzanna Grimm (head =
over to www.zuzanium.com right now!), and Lee Lee Mishi. =
Pay-what-you-can all night long...
(c) TEMPO TUESDAYS - yup, still on the jazzed-out attack. Venus does it =
up lovely. Chat up Rahim (thanks for reaching down last night, dude!) =
and have some drink. Also mad props to Count Rockula and CoolHandLuke =
that dropped by last night too. Nice to mellow it out sometimes...it's =
free and Rob is always good for a laugh...
(d) THERE'S MORE - but I'm not gonna give myself anymore tendonitis =
today. Check them local listings, scene?
'BEST KEPT SECRET'...hell no, we can't keep it under wraps forever...
Check you soon!
Peace and much respect from the BEST KEPT gyals.
