He'll be bringing his eclectic mix of dub, bossa, afro-beat, and trip-hop
from his residency at the 18th Street Lounge in D.C. straight to Nation.
Dont miss your chance to soak in the vibes from this electronic music
prophet.
Desmond Williams Bio:
Born in Jamaica and raised in Jersey, Desmond Williams has been
experimenting with electronic music for nearly fifteen years.
While working with legendary dub engineer Scientist, Williams met Eric
Hilton and Rob Garza, the duo better known as Thievery Corporation.
Thoroughly impressed by his work, Williams was invited by the pair to
Thievery's home base at the ESL studios. Williams added his production touch
to some of the The Mirror Conspiracy's (Thievery's 2nd LP) finest tracks
including "Le Monde," "Shadows Of Ourselves," and "Focus On Sight. "
Through a series EP's (Theme From A Dream, Um Favor, and Cocoa) and his
residence at the Eighteenth Street Lounge, Williams began to tantalize both
club-goers and record buyers with his highly intricate style. Inspired by
the lush landscapes of Akiro Kurasawa films, the rhythmic poetry of Langston
Hughes, and The Clash's forays into reggae, Williams seamlessly flows
through the lands of dub, bossa, afro-beat, and trip-hop while keeping his
head and arms inside his well-crafted vessel.
With the release of his debut full length, Delights Of The Garden, Williams
delivers on the sparkling promise he's only let us glimpse before. Crafting
songs from a variety of instruments, (most of which Williams plays himself),
and sprinkled with snippets of horns, vintage keyboards, and vocal samples
from the golden age of radio, Williams creates musical scenes that blend in
a way that would leave cinematographers breathless.
From the dub-spiced bossa of 'Um Favor' to the afro-beat reggae of 'Dread A
The Roughest,' Williams has built a sublime piece of work that pushes
downtempo into previously uncharted waters.
After teasing us with singles for the past two years, Desmond finally
delivers the goods in full.
