New Releases :: Goto Toshiyuki, Chari Chari

        Toshiyuki Goto/Mato -- Reminiscence/Tribe . . . 12-inch
    Flower (Japan), 2002
"Reminiscence" is a wonderfully atmospheric groover from Toshiyuki Goto
-- warm beats with a soft finish, covered by a background keyboard organ
line that bubbles away like you're hearing it come from a distant club
down the street -- all of which makes for a very compelling (and
soulful) listen! The track's backed by "Tribe" by Mato -- a tune that's
got a slight Afro House inflection, and some more very nice organ
    riffing!

    Chari Chari -- In Time . . . CD
    Toys Factory (Japan), 2002
Moody and atmospheric work from Japanese producer/keyboardist Kaoru
Inoue and his Chari Chari ensemble. The style is a bit similar to some
of the work coming out of Japan in the mid 90s by the Toys
Factory/Idyllic artists, but has a rootsier quality that's almost part
of a "back to nature" move. A few tracks have vocals, but most are
instrumentals with a spare and naturalistic quality, inflected with
slight touches of soul. Titles include "Tidal Wave", "Liberation",
"Remains", "Aurora", "Folk Tales", and "One".
