Hello guys hope this can help a bit,
Pedro:
to my understanding Fire wire is more powerful- reliable than USB.
Regarding the connections I tend to think that a DAT is not really
needed since you can plug the mixer/amplifier out(RCA or optical Fiber)
directly to the soundcard of the PC. However i think the result is a
lot influenced by the soundcard you have(professional ones are really
expensive Terratec or others) but have the great advantage of having
RCA in plugs or even digital in plugs.A DAT does a good job anyhow.

there have been some posting regarding software my choice 4 ease and
reliability are for Cool Edit( www.syntrillium.com ) or Acid(
www.acid.com ) both have the mp3 conversion capability(altough we
discussed in this forum that mp3 sound crap in general and especially
in a club:-))
One curiosity: i was playng in this club here in Milan recently, the
follow up show was held by this guy who had assembled a pc with a flat
screen into one of those NUMARK double cd players.
Basically the Hard disk was storing something like 100h of music and he
accessed directly songs via mouse or the jog weel from the NUMARK
players!!!
Songs where automatically pitched and a lot of gimmicks and juggling
where possible, all visible in the flat screen.
Quite impressive I was there with my vintage bags something like 30kg
of stuff and he only had this little suitcase,,,handy.
However nobody can replace the joy I have when unfolding a Vynil
looking at the foto/artwork and playng it!!!!!
Cheers,ZG2003
ps other options that come to my mind are the minidisc that u can plug
on the mixer to record DJ sets...and am sure there are many others far
more clever and sophisticated options.

Pedro, sounds interesting (and time-consuming) what you are doing. can
you tell me your process as I am interested in transferring some of my
vinyl recordings on to my harddrive and then to MP3 format. I have a
Mac G4 laptop. What programs and/or hardware connections do I need?
Also, can anyone recommend the best (and easiest to learn) program out
there to get a mixes on to a cd via turntables>mixer>G4 harddrive? I
heard that ProTools is good for this. I downloaded the free version but
it seems a formidable task to learn.
thx,
