    Greetings,

Just returned from a screening of "Ghosts of The Abyss" - James Cameron's new 3-D IMAX adventure, where he, Bill Paxton and his camera crew explore the wreck of the Titanic using two mini-subs and robotic probes. My movie critic companion wasn't thrilled by the way the special headsets fit, or by the 3-D format, but I enjoyed it anyway....

Our good friend Steven Yang in Guangzhou, China has just launched a beautiful new Web page at http://www.radiotake10.org. Check out the great lineup of shows and DJs (including FreeFall) from around the world and by all means, tune in often.

On deck for this evening's program are a number of singles, EPs and albums, including:

Mitchell & Dewbury: "Globetrotter" - The follow-up to the recent "Jazz Is Your Life," Ben Mitchell & Russ Dewbury serve up another slice of dancefloor jazz that's guaranteed to rock the party with all some gritty b-3, flute and wah-wah going on. Can't wait for the album!

V.U. (Variable Unit): Handbook For The Apocalypse: A Hitchhikers Guide Through The Conflict - A timely album if there ever was one, this Bay Area band looks at terrorism, war and the potentially dismal future that awaits us if we continue along the paths we're currently travelling. A chilling statement that manages to both political and funky.

Shaun Escoffrey: Soulsonica - It's hard to believe that Mr. E doesn't have a U.S deal for his album yet and this stunning collection of remixes only makes that fact more significant. Jazzanova, 4 Hero, Mark De Clive-Lowe, Peter Kruder, DJ Spinna, Koop - the cream of the crop have all done outstanding work here and transformed a great record into......another great record. Get this.

Fertile Ground: "Illumination" Remixes - Last Friday I received an e-mail telling me that Fertile Ground were making their West Coast debut in Oakland that night and as luck would have it, I couldn't go! D'oh! I've been able to relieve a little of my frustration by listening to this new single that's been given a luscious Afro-beat re-work. It's not as good as a live show, but it'll have to do, at least until the full remix album drops in June. Double D'oh!

    J. Boogie's Dubtronic Science - Fellow KUSF DJ Justin Boland has made one of the albums of the year and I'm not just blowin' smoke here. This is a beautiful work full of color, space and texture that's made even finer by guest appearances by Gina Rene, Goapelle, Capitol A, Tony Moses and People Under The Stairs. Hip-hop, downtempo and a whole lotta soul make this a thrilling listen from start to finish.

Roy Hargrove: The RH Factor EP - The Grammy-winner trumpeter brings together hip-hop and hip-bop with this taste of his upcoming full-length, Hard Groove. Erykah Badu, Common, Q-Tip, D'Angelo and a slew of others are on board for this collaborative project that promises to be a monster.

And in brief: Caia: The Magic Dragon - No relation to Puff. just sweet lazy beats that are sexy and chill....Plaid: Parts In The Post - first the Aphex Twin and now Plaid, drop a two-disc set of remixes they've done for and to others. Selections include tracks from Bjork, Goldfrapp, Funki Porcini, Herbert and Grandmaster Flash.....Black Dog: Genetically Modified - imagine an evil-sounding Willam Dafoe reciting lyrics to an assortment of techno tempos and you've got a pretty fair idea of what these guys are about. This time Black Dog gets the remix treatment from CJ Bolland, Mescalito, 808 State, Laub and several other compadres.

If you live in the Bay Area, be listening for your chance to win tickets for the upcoming Underworld show at the Warfield Theater on April 26. Also on the bill is Primal Scream, Dirty Vegas and FC/Kahuna.

Until next week, ciao for now,
    David
