I assume that many of you in the U.S. have seen the advertisements that
attempt to link smoking marijuana to terrorism - www.mediacampaign.org/mg/
<http://www.mediacampaign.org/mg/> - Well I just ran across another one (in
the New York Times!) and I can’t take it any more. I fired off an obscenity
laden email to that organization about five minutes ago. I’ve calmed down a
bit, but I’m still pretty agitated. Where to begin? I’ll make it easier
for everyone and leave my opinions about the present course of the Bush
administration out of this email. The ads are the work of National Youth
Anti-Drug Media Campaign – www.theantidrug.com
http://www.theantidrug.com/> - which is itself the brainchild of the White
House Office of National Drug Control Policy. As I said, a few ads in this
campaign connect drug use to the support of terrorism. The website actually
quotes George W. Bush: “If you quit drugs, you join the fight against terror
in America.” It’s not hard to read between the lines (as we know, W. is
familiar with lines): smoke a joint and you support Al Queda.

Put simply, it is evil to enlist the feelings stirred up by September 11th
in the fight against drug use, about which there is no clear consensus in
this country. And to use 9/11 in a fight against marijuana use is so
ignorant and insensitive that it’s almost hard to believe.

Please contact them (sans obscenities) at the second website listed above
and let them know what you think.
