    Greetings,

It's been a great week for new and not-so-new releases - here are
    some of the highlights:

"Axiom: Reconstructions & Vexations" is another in the long list of
Bill Laswell projects, featuring an assortment of tracks taken from
the label's catalog and given the re-rub by such luminaries as Carl
Craig, 4 Hero, Dr. Israel, Karsh Kale and Mr. Laswell himself. The
result is a tight mix of funky drum & bass with a decidedly Middle
Eastern flavor. If you're a fan of the genre, this is a must-have.

V/A: "Jazz Bizniz 3" - The UK's Counterpoint Records gets 2003 off to
a smashing start with their latest collection of independent rare
groove with 14 slices of new and old jazz, soul and Afro-Latin jams.
    Zig-zagging it's way from obscure '60s boogaloo and '70s funk 45's to
modern jazz from Scandinavia, this album is both deep and dope.
Street date is March 3rd, so this is a special advance peek!

"Lovebox" is brand new from Groove Armada and is the funkiest thing
they've done to date. As always, there are some hot guest vocalists:
Neneh Cherry (where the hell has she been?), Sunshine Anderson,
Richie Havens, Nappy Roots and Red Rat all give solid performances
and make this a very soulful affair.

The latest entry in the "Back To Mine" series comes courtesy of The
Orb. The good Dr. Patterson has tossed together a wonderfully
eclectic package featuring such diverse acts as Aphex Twin, The
Chi-Lites, Schneider TM, Charles Webster and Julee Cruise. A new Orb
track, "The Land of Green Ginger," makes its debut here and will
eventually be included as part of a full-length release later this
    year.

Dubwise, we'll fire up classics from the "Wackie's Sampler Vol. 1" -
crucial cuts from one of reggae's finest labels, as well as Select
Cuts' new King Tubby compilation, "100% Of Dub." Thanks to our
friends at Rooftop Promotions for passing these along.

    Singles-wise, there's "Batidas Latinas / Crabwalk" - a double-sided
7" monster from Color Climax on Breakin' Bread. The A-side starts
out with a sweet Latin groove and quickly builds to a fever pitch so
hot, I had to check the needle for heat damage. The flip makes me
wish I was flexible enough to break dance. There are drum breaks that
won't quit and enough energy to rock the club at peak hour. Thanks
Skeg! Last but not least, there are two new remixes of Jol's "Cool
Cat" that originally appeared on Quango's "Nordic Exposure"
collection. The original version's hip-hop flava is tossed out the
window, as Andreas Saag works a little Swell Session magic,
transforming the track into a dense jungle groove. Butti 49 take a
different approach, opting for a West London vibe with beats that are
nicely broken for maximum dancefloor action.

Some of the other artists scheduled to appear: Cuica, De-Phazz,
Matthew Herbert, Cody ChestnuTT and Carouge.

Finally, we have a new DJ mix from Quantic recorded live in Scotland
that's tentatively set for two weeks from tonight. Watch this space
    for details.

Until next week - ciao for now,
    David
