I hate to rain on everyone's parade, but I think we need to keep the
quality of Cinematic Orchestra's music in perspective. As live jazz
musicians their talents are suspect (also see: Koop). For those of you
that enjoyed Cinematic so much in concert I have to words for you:
Pharoah Sanders.
I was seriously bored at the Cinematic's recent LA show and am thinking
of avoiding musicians who make pleasant cross genre albums, but pass
themselves off as jazz musicians in concert. I thought for sure that
Cinematic would bring something different to their live performance (and
unless you call a few turntable provided beats something different);
they didn't.
In a strange way, I find Zero 7 more compelling live than either
Cinematic or Koop.
Jon
p.s. You can blame the tone of this on the fact that it's Monday morning
- yuck!

the seattle show went off without a hitch.
the room was packed
the band was tight.
i know that had a good time cuz they came out and danced after their
set was over to my DJ set.
it was a very special night....
