Without a doubt, Pharoah Sanders is a jazz master. But Cinematic's
performance in SF last week was definitely one of the highlights of the year
for me. To compare their real jazz playing with the jazz posturing of Koop
does Cinematic a great disservice, IMO. (And their vocalist sung rings
around Yukimi Nagano.)
In addition to being able to cut it quite admirably as a live band, the CMO
soundtrack to MAN WITH A MOVIE CAMERA is absolutely stunning. See the film
before you judge!
BTW, for those who like their jazz on the spiritual tip a la Pharoah
Sanders, *do not miss* Sleepwalker's new album. It's righteous! :-)
