Hey,
A book was very recently put out on the history of Motown, which supposedly
dishes all the dirt about the label. I haven't read it yet due to the steep
price....
If you want one on Funk, then you should definitely read "Funk: The Music,
The People, and The Rhythm Of The One" by Rickey Vincent. It's absolutely
essential reading for anyone who loves funk music.
Of course, another essential would be "Last Night A DJ Saved My Life",
chronicling the history of DJ Music.
I haven't read any books about jazz in general and therefore can't recommend
any, but I have read tons on individual jazz artists, so if you want a
recommendation on someone in particular, hit me back, and I'll help if I
can.
Stimp
